St. Clement, Ashampstead, Berkshire

Description

The church of St. Clement is a plain structure in the Early Norman style, consisting of chancel, nave, south porch and a western tower of wood containing one bell, which bears the inscription "Henry Knight made mee, 1671:" it was thoroughly repaired in 1849, and again in 1894, under the direction of the late A. Waterhouse esq. R.A.; in 1897 some interesting paintings were disclosed on the north wall and over the chancel arch, and others were discovered in 1913: there are 160 sittings. A new east window was erected in 1910 by Mrs. Morrell, in memory of her husband, the late George Herbert Morrell esq. J.P.: a vestry was added in 1908 in memory of the late William Dewe esq. of Haw, Hampstead Norris.
