St. Mary, West Chickerell, Dorset

Description

The parish church of St. Mary is an edifice of stone in the Perpendicular style, consisting of chancel, nave, north aisle, and south porch: 2 large bells are suspended under two stone arches at the west end: the font is Norman: the Jacobean pulpit dates from 1630: the chancel was restored in 1875 and 1896: a new organ was erected in 1902: there are 250 sittings.

Church Records

The parish register of baptisms, marriages and burials begins in 1699. The original register books are now deposited with the Dorset Archives Service, but have been digitised by Ancestry.co.uk and made available on their site (subscription required).
