St. Peter, Windrush, Gloucestershire
Description
The church of St. Peter is an ancient building of stone in the Perpendicular style, consisting of chancel, nave of four bays, south transept and porch, and an embattled western tower containing 6 bells: the transept retains a piscina, discovered, with other remains, during the restoration: in the east wall are some Norman corbels and a memorial stone to the Hungerford family, dated 1579: the south doorway is a fine specimen of Norman work: the church was restored and an organ chamber and vestry added in 1874, at a cost of £1,200; and in 1889 an organ was erected at a cost of £180: there are sittings for 150 persons.
