St. Peter, Wapley, Gloucestershire
Description
The church of St. Peter is an ancient building of stone in the Early English style, consisting of chancel, nave, south porch and an embattled western tower, with pinnacles, containing 5 bells: the east and west windows are stained: there is a chapel on the south side belonging to the Codrington family, containing an altar tomb with inscription on the wall above to John Codrington esq. ob. 1475, the founder of that family, who was 111 years of age when he died: the church was partially restored in 1862, the repair of the chancel being undertaken by the late C. W. Codrington esq.: further repairs were effected in 1897, and again in 1900, when the tower was restored and the bells rehung: there are 150 sittings.
