All Saints, Somerford Keynes, Wiltshire

Description

The church of All Saints, nearly concealed by a grove of trees, is an edifice in the perpendicular style, consisting of chancel, nave, north chapel, south porch, and embattled western tower with pinnacles containing 3 bells: the stained east window is a memorial to the Rev. Christopher Fawcett M.A. vicar 1829-81; and there is another to C. J. F. Fawcett esq.: in the nave is a marble tomb with recumbent effigy to Robert Strange, lord of the manor, d. 1654: the chancel has an ancient oak screen, and in the north wall is a Saxon doorway, now walled up: the church was thoroughly restored in 1876, at a cost of £500, and affords 200 sittings.
