St. Matthew, Caincross, Gloucestershire
Description
The church of St. Matthew, erected in 1837, is a building of stone, consisting of chancel, nave of five bays, aisles, north and west porches and an embattled western tower, with pinnacles, containing one bell: the organ was erected in 1883 at a cost of about £350: the stained east window was placed in 1897, in commemoration of the Diamond Jubilee of H.M. Queen Victoria, and there are four memorial windows to members of the Gobey family: between 1897 and 1901, the church was enlarged and reseated in oak, and a new chancel, morning chapel, organ chamber and vestry erected, at a cost of £5,638: there are now 650 sittings.
