St. Edburga, Abberton, Worcestershire

Description

The church of St. Edburga, rebuilt, with additions, in 1881-2 on the same site, at a cost of £3,000, is an edifice of stone, in the Early English style, from the designs of Mr. W. J. Hopkins, architect, of Worcester, and consists of chancel, nave, vestry, south porch and a western tower with spire 105 feet in height, containing 2 bells, provision being made for a future peal of 6: the walls are constructed externally with the materials of the old church, some of the ancient, windows being re-inserted; internally they are lined with red and coloured brick: the font, a Norman work, has been retained, and the monuments of the Sheldons replaced.: the rebuilding was carried out at the sole cost of the late William Laslett esq, of Abberton Hall, and the church reopened by the Bishop of Worcester, Nov. 15, 1882: it has 120 sittings.
