Bwlch y Groes, Merionethshire

Historical Description

Bwlch-y-Groes, a mountain pass on the mutual border of Merionethshire and Montgomeryshire, 8 miles S of Bala, on the road to Dinas-Mawddwy. It is about 1950 feet high, and the name, which signifies the " the pass of the cross" was given to it on account of a rude crucifix having been placed on its summit to stimulate the faith and courage of travellers.
