Cwmdu, Breconshire

Historical Description

Cwmdu, a village and a parish in Brecknockshire. The village stands on an affluent of the river Usk, amid romantic scenery, under the Black Mountains, 4 ¼ miles NW by N of Crickhowell. It has a post and money order office under Crickhowell; telegraph office, Crickhowell. The parish, also called Llanfihangel-Cwmdu, and St Micliael's Cwmdwr, is divided into four parcels. Acreage, 9930 ; population, 850. The living is a rectory in the diocese of St David's; net value, £186 with residence. Patron, the Duke of Beaufort. The church is ancient, and has a good rood screen.
