Rhoscolyn, Anglesey

Historical Description

Rhoscolyn, a parish in Anglesey, comprising the SE part of Holyhead Island, 2 miles SSW of Valley station on the L. & N.W.R., and 4½ SSE of Holyhead. It has a post office under Holyhead; money order and telegraph office, Valley. It includes the village of Four-Mile Bridge. Acreage, 2250 of land and 424 of water, including 395 of foreshore; population of the civil parish, 400; of the ecclesiastical, with Llan-fair-yn-Eubwll and Llanfihangel-yn-Nhowyn, 864. Marble, verd-antique, and asbestos are found. The living is a rectory, united with the perpetual curacies of Llanfair-yn-EubwIl and Llanfihangel-yn-Nhowyn, in the diocese of Bangor; gross value, £317 with residence. Patron, the Bishop of Llandaff. The church was rebuilt in 1876. There are Baptist, Calvinistic Methodist, and Wesleyan chapels.
