Penmynydd, Anglesey

Historical Description

Penmynydd, a village and a parish in Anglesey. The village stands near the head of the valley of the Braint, 2½ miles NW of LIanfair station on the L. & N.W.R., and 4 E of Llangefni, and has a post office under Llangefni (R.S.O.); money order and telegraph office, LIanfair. The parish comprises 3237 acres; population, 399. Plas Penmynydd is a house of the date of 1370, and was the birthplace of Owen Tudor, the grandfather of Henry VII. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Bangor; gross value, £228 with residence. Patron, the Bishop of Bangor. The church is of the 15th century, has been restored, and contains an elaborate alabaster tomb of a Tudor. There are Baptist, Calvinistic Methodist, and Congregational chapels.
