Keinton Mansfield, Somerset
Historical Description
Keinton Mandeville or Kington Mansfield, a village and a parish in Somerset. The village stands near the river Brue, 4½ miles ENE of Somerton, and 6 SW by W of Castle Cary station on the G.W.R. There is a post office, of the name of Keinton Mandeville, under Somerton; telegraph office, Baltonsborough. Acreage, 685; population, 506. Blue lias is quarried. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Bath and Wells; net value, £220 with residence. The church is Early English, was partly rebuilt in 1800, and comprises nave, aisles, and chancel, with embattled tower. There are Wesleyan and Bible Christian chapels. The village was the birthplace of the celebrated actor Henry Irving.
