Butccombe, Somerset

Historical Description

Butccombe, a parish in Somersetshire, near the river Yeo, 5 miles from Sandford and Banwell station on the G.W.R., and 8 NE of Axbridge. It has a post office under Wrington (R.S.O.); money order and telegraph office, Blagdon. Acreage, 1110; population of the civil parish, 208; of the ecclesiastical, 189. Butcombe Court is a chief residence. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Bath and Wells; net value, £127 with residence. The church is very ancient, and in good condition. There are remains of a Friend's burial-ground.
