Langton St Andrew, Lincolnshire

Historical Description

Langton St Andrew, a chapelry in Langton-near-Horncastle, Woodhall, Thornton, and Thimbleby parishes, Lincolnshire, near Woodhall Spa station on the G.N.R., 7 miles SW of Horncastle. It was constituted in 1850. There is a post, money order, and telegraph office at Woodhall Spa. Population, 721. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Lincoln; gross value, £350 with residence. Patron, the Rector of Langton. The church was built in 1846; is a fine edifice in the Pointed style of architecture; consists of nave and chancel, with a turret; has three good stained-glass windows, and contains a richly-carved stone pulpit and a font. There are also Presbyterian, Primitive Methodist, and Wesleyan chapels.
