Holton le Moor, Lincolnshire
Historical Description
Holton-le-Moor, a village and a parish in Lincolnshire. The village stands 1 mile SE from the M.S. & L.R., on which it has a station, and 3 miles SW by S from Caistor. There is a post office under Lincoln; money order office, South Kelsey; telegraph office, Caistor. Area of parish, about 1892 acres; population, 167. The manor belongs to the Dixon family, who are sole landowners, and reside at Holton Hall, a. mansion standing in a well-timbered park of 110 acres. The living is a vicarage, annexed to the vicarage of Caistor and Clixby, in the diocese of Lincoln. The church is Early English, consisting of chancel, nave, and N aisle, an ancient piscina, aumbry, and Saxon doorway, and containing several mural monuments to the Dixon family. In 1893 the E window in the chancel was filled with painted glass to the memory of the late Mrs Mary Ann Dixon by her elder daughter. The church has a turret with two bells.
