Historical Description
Halton Holegate, a village and a parish in Lincolnshire. The village stands on the river Steeping, 1 mile ESE from Spilsby, with a station on the Spilsby branch of the G.N.R. It has a post office under Spilsby; money order and telegraph office, SpUsby. The parish comprises 2106 acres; population, 427. The manor belongs to the Vessey family. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Lincoln; net value, £196 with residence. The church is Later English, with Early Norman parts, consists of nave, aisles, and chancel, with a large tower, and contains an ancient font and, on an altar tomb, the effigies of a crusader. The church was thoroughly restored in 1893-94. There is a Wesleyan chapel, and a small charity.
