Historical Description
Frodingham, a township and a parish in Lincolnshire. The township lies on the South Yorkshire branch of the M.S. & L.R., and has a station 9 miles NW from Brigg. There is a post, money order, and telegraph office at Scunthorpe, under Doncaster. The parish includes Scunthorpe township, likewise the township of Brumby, and parts of the townships of Crosby and Gunhouse. Area of Frodingham, 1019 acres; population, 1384; of Scunthorpe, 1031 acres; population, 3481; of Brumby, 3024 acres; population, 756; of Crosby, 3181 acres; population, 366; of Gunhouse, 509 acres; population, 78. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Lincoln; gross value, £1049 with residence. Patron, Lord St Oswald. The church, a building of stone in the Transitional style, was rebuilt in 1841. There are Wesleyan chapels at Scunthorpe and Bromby, and a Primitive Methodist chapel at Crosby. Much ironstone is found in this parish, and there are several extensive ironworks.
