Fenton, Lincolnshire

Historical Description

Fenton, a village and a parish in Lincolnshire, near the-river Witham, 2 miles ENE of Claypole station on the G.N.R., and 6 SE by E of Newark. Post town and telegraph office, Newark; money order office, Claypole. Acreage, 1231; population, 76. Fenton Hall, once the seat of the Lucases, is now a farmhouse. The living is a perpetual curacy, annexed with that of Stragglethorpe to the rectory of Beckingham, in the diocese of Lincoln. The church is a-building of stone, chiefly in the Decorated and Perpendicular-styles.
