Historical Description

Worsthorne, a township and an ecclesiastical parish in Whalley parish, Lancashire. The township lies 2 miles E of Burnley railway station, and bears the name of Worsthorne-with-Hurstwood. It has a post and money order office under Burnley; telegraph office, Burnley. Acreage, 3510; population, 1069. There is a parish council consisting of seven members. The Duke of Buccleuch is lord of the manor. Cotton manufacture is carried on, and there are quarries. The ecclesiastical parish was constituted in 1835. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Manchester; net value, £199 with residence. Patrons, Hulme's Trustees. The church is Early English, consisting of chancel, nave, aisles, and bell-turret. There are Baptist and Wesleyan chapels.
