Wingates, Lancashire

Historical Description

Wingates, an ecclesiastical parish in Deane and Bolton-le-Moors parish, Lancashire, 2 miles WSW of Bolton railway station. It was constituted in 1860, comprises the township of Lostock, and has a post and money order office under Bolton; telegraph office, Westhoughton. Population, 4234. The living is a perpetual curacy in the diocese of Manchester; net value, £300 with residence. Patron, the Vicar of Deane. The church is a plain building, consisting of chancel, nave, S porch, and bell-turret, and contains some memorial windows.
