Historical Description
Waterloo, a small town and two chapelries in Sefton parish, Lancashire. The town stands on the coast and on the Liverpool and Southport railway, 4 miles N by W of Liverpool, is frequented as a watering-place, comprises fine terraced rows of houses and some good streets, and has a post, money order, and telegraph office (T.S.O.) under Liverpool, a railway station, hotels, a town-hall in the Classic style, three churches, and Congregational, Wesleyan, Presbyterian, and Roman Catholic chapels. Waterloo, with Seaforth, has an urban district council consisting of eighteen members. The chapelries are Christchurch and St John- the former constituted in 1842, the latter in 1877. Population of the former, 2520; of the latter, 3040. The living of Christchurch is a perpetual curacy in the diocese of Liverpool; net value, £500; of St John's, a vicarage; net value, £450. The living of St Mary, Waterloo Park, is a curacy; net value, £250. Population, 2230.
