Historical Description
Pennington, a parish in Lancashire, 1½ mile WSW of Ulverston, and 1 from Lindal station on the Furness railway. It has a post office under Ulverston; money order office, Lindal; telegraph office, Ulverston. Acreage, 2845; population, 1650. The manor belongs to Lord Muncaster. Iron ore is very largely mined. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Carlisle; net value, £290 with residence. Patron, the Bishop. It is believed there was a church here in 1100, and a pre-Reformation church followed this, which was rebuilt in 1826, and consists of nave and embattled western tower.
