Glodwick, Lancashire

Historical Description

Glodwick, two ecclesiastical parishes in Lancashire, in the south-eastern vicinity of Oldham town and railway station. The ecclesiastical parish of Christchurch was con-, stituted in 1844, and its post town is Oldham. Population i of Christchurch, 5794. The living of Christchurch is a ' vicarage in the diocese of Manchester; net value, £328. i Patron, alternately the Crown and the Bishop. The church is good. The ecclesiastical parish of St Mark was constituted in 1876. Population, 9723. The church is a fine building in the Early Decorated style, with a tower surmounted by a spire. The living is a vicarage; net value, £430, with residence, in the gift of five trustees. At Glodwick Road there is a station on the L. & N.W.R, and a post, money order, and telegraph office. There is also a Wesleyan Methodist chapel.
