Claughton, Lancashire

Historical Description

Claughton, a village, a township, and a parish in Lancashire, on the river Lune, and on the Skipton and Lancaster railway, 1½ mile WSW of Hornby railway station, and 7 miles NE by E of Lancaster. Post town, Lancaster; money order and telegraph office, Hornby. Acreage, 1581; population, 82. Claughton Hall, built as a manor-house in the time of James L, has two embattled towers and numerous transom ed windows. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Manchester; net value, —£83 with residence. The church is good.
