St Devereux, Herefordshire

Historical Description

Devereux, St, a parish in Herefordshire, on the river Worm, 7½ miles SW by S of Hereford. It has a station on the G.W.R., and contains the hamlet of Didley. Post town, Tram Inn (R.S.O.); money order office, Pontrilas or Tram Inn; telegraph office, Pontrilas. Acreage, 1102; population of the civil parish, 164; of the ecclesiastical, 392. The living is a rectory, with the chapelry of Wormbridge annexed, in the diocese of Hereford; net value, £186. The church is Norman, and was restored in 1883. There is a Primitive Methodist chapel at Didley.
