Historical Description

Bumpstead, Helion, a parish in Essex, on the N verge of the county, and on the Colne Valley and Halstead railway, 3 ½ miles from Haverhill station, and 8 NNE of Thaxted. It has a post office under Haverhill, which is the money order and telegraph office. Acreage, 2853; population, 661. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of St Albans; gross yearly value, £219 with residence, in the gift of Trinity College, Cambridge. The church is an edifice of stone and brick in the Early English style.
