Coryton, Devon

Historical Description

Coryton or Corriton, a parish in Devon, with a station on the G.W.R.,216 miles from London, on Lyd river, 7 miles NNW of Tavistock. Post town, Lewdown (R.S.O.); money order office, Lewdown; telegraph office, Coryton railway station. Acreage, 1520; population, 238. Coryton Park is the seat of the Tucker family. Slate has been largely quarried. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Exeter; value, £157 with residence. The church is ancient, and was repaired and enlarged in 1838.
