St. Mary, Chettle, Dorset

Description

The parish church of St. Mary, a building of flint and stone, was rebuilt, with the exception of the tower, in 1850, in the Perpendicular style, at the sole expense of the late E. Castleman esq. and consists of chancel, nave, transepts and an embattled western tower containing 3 bells: there are two stained windows: the church has sittings for 80 persons.

Church Records

The parish register of baptisms, marriages and burials begins in 1539. The original register books are now deposited with the Dorset Archives Service, but have been digitised by Ancestry.co.uk and made available on their site (subscription required).
